Wimbledon fan 'gobsmacked' when cautioned for photos of Meghan Markle

Wimbledon fan 'gobsmacked' when cautioned for photos of Meghan Markle Sally Jones confessed to Piers Morgan on Good Morning Britain that she “almost burst out laughing” at the peculiarity of the situation. The tennis fan had been in Centre Court at the same time as the Duchess last Thursday. Ms Markle has come under fierce criticism after her entourage banned the public from taking photos of her at Wimbledon as she was there in a “private” capacity - despite the fact that she was sharing the event with 12, spectators. Ms Jones told Piers Morgan that a security member had said: “Would you kindly not take photos of the Duchess - she’s here in a private capacity.” Ms Jones continued: “And I was a bit gobsmacked. “I thought ‘what, have I upset people?’ “Then, suddenly, I felt a bit angry and a bit bemused.   “I almost burst out laughing.” Mr Morgan replied: “And you’re a fan of the royal family. “It’s not like you’re anti-monarchy or anything.” Ms Jone confided: “Great fan, yes.”  But then co-panellist Susanna Reid highlight the most astonishing part of the episode: “But the problem was, you hadn’t been taking photographs of the Duchess!” An amused Ms Jones commented: “No, I haven’t a single photograph of Meghan. “And if I had taken one, it would have been a blurry shot of her left ear.” Meghan Markle visited Wimbledon on Thursday to watch her friend Serena Williams compete but the Duchesses’ security team upset fans by ordering those seated nearby not to take photos because Meghan was visiting in a “private capacity”.  Trending  Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s quest for privacy is causing a stir among royal fans, who were upset to hear that the royal couple decided to have a private christening for their son Archie. The Duchess continued to ruffle feathers last week as her bodyguards warned those sitting nearby not to take pictures of her at Wimbledon, something one tennis fan described as “bonkers” and “another example of silly control freakery”. But a royal source has said the photo ban was to let her “engage with people rather than camera phones”. They said: “It’s not uncommon for personal protection officers accompanying any members of the Family to ask people not to take pictures so they can engage with people and events rather than camera phones.”
