The Non-Canon Expert looks at Yoda's sad and brutal existence just prior to Luke's arrival on Dagobah, and describes how the events experienced during his exile on Dagobah left Yoda with the conclusion that he had no choice but to train Luke despite the fact that his future may hold aspects that led to the downfall of the Jedi in the first place.
