What you can — and can't — do under Minnesota's new 'hands-free' cellphone law Starting Aug. 1, holding a cellphone while driving becomes illegal in Minnesota. Under the new law, drivers can send messages, place calls or use an app while driving only if their device is in hands-free or voice-activated mode.
