OXFORD, Ohio (WKRC) - Oxford Police say the shooting of a 17-year-old was the result of an accidental shooting by his own friend as they allegedly tried to rob another person during a drug deal. Benjamin Hizer, 18, is charged with aggravated robbery. According to police, Hizer and the teen who was shot arranged to meet the man they planned to rob at Oxford Wash on College Corner Pike. During that robbery attempt, police say Hizer fired a shot, hitting the 17-year-old in the abdomen.
The victim was first taken to McCullough Hyde Hospital. A medical helicopter took him to UC Medical Center. No word on his condition.
The intended robbery target took off after the shooting. Police did track him down. They did not say if he'd be charged.
Police say Hizer will likely face more charges.
