PARENTS SHOULD TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE FILMS THEIR KIDS WATCH

PARENTS SHOULD TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE FILMS THEIR KIDS WATCH This week the Clinic will be discussing Certifications... Particularly as it relates to watching films in Cinemas, On DVDs and Blu-ray Disc’s... We will also cover Streaming platforms like Netflix, Amazon Prime Video etc...

Last week we discussed the impact of piracy on our children and this has equal importance... Many parents don’t understand how crucial this is...

We are assuming that controls are in place to protect our young ones when they watch film on these various platforms, but this is not quite true...
As parents we must take full responsibility for what are young ones (particularly under 15s) are exposed to...

The governing bodies in charge of certification acknowledge the importance of exposing our children to age appropriate content and label films accordingly but this is not efficiently been policed and this is where parents can make a difference.

Generally, the Clinic recommends that parents should get into the habit of going to see a film before their child sees it or better still... the parent should see the movie with them. It affords them the opportunity to explain away seemingly inappropriate scenes that may appear.

What is important to us as parents is that you don’t depend on someone or the system to protect your children from watching inappropriate material...

It’s our God give responsibility as parents to guide our children on this matter... If the governing bodies do their bit... it’s just a bonus...
