Male Boss vs Female Boss - What is Preferred in United States? In recorded Gallup polls since 1953, men and women say they prefer to work for a male boss than a female boss. In a 1953 Gallup poll, 66% of those asked said they would prefer working for a man than for a woman.

The statistics have changed dramatically since then, the number of respondents stating that they would prefer working for a woman has almost equal to those for a man in 2017 survey.

As per this trend, Americans No Longer Prefer Male Boss to Female Boss.

Results are based on telephone interviews conducted November 2-8, 2017 with a random sample of –1,028— adults, ages 18+, living in all 50 U.S. states and the District of Columbia.

Survey question being asked is:
The share of national adults, aged 18+, responding to the question 'If you were taking a new job and had your choice of a boss would you prefer to work for a man or a woman?' and answered they prefer a female boss.
