Determining VanDeemter Coefficients By Non-linear Regression Using GeoGebra (Free!)

Determining VanDeemter Coefficients By Non-linear Regression Using GeoGebra (Free!) This video demonstrates how to do non-linear analysis in GeoGebra. Although I demonstrate by fitting data to the VanDeemter equation, this program can fit data to pretty much any model by following the same steps.

If GeoGebra finds negative coefficients and thus your line does not fit the data at all, try dragging the sliders for the coefficients to the right. This sets the seed values for the fit and thus points the search algorithm in the right direction.

If you have forgotten how to calculate plate height (H), first calculate number of plates

N = 16 × (retention time)^2 / (peak width)^2

then divide this by the length of the column (in millimeters) by the number of plates

H = L / N

and use these H values for the analysis described in the video.

Enjoy optimizing!
