Royal Kids - Royal REVEAL: How 'remarkably SHY' Queen relies on Prince Philip on state visits

Royal Kids - Royal REVEAL: How 'remarkably SHY' Queen relies on Prince Philip on state visits Queen Elizabeth II is hosting Donald and Melania Trump on the first day of the US President and First Lady’s state visit to the UK today. Her Majesty’s husband, Prince Philip, is not in attendance, as the Duke of Edinburgh has scaled back his royal engagements in recent years. However, Prince Philip – who is known for often making off-colour jokes and public gaffes on royal occasions – actually helps Her Majesty break the ice with important visitors as she herself is surprisingly shy, according to a royal expert.  Channel 5 documentary “Royal Scandals”, which originally aired in March, heard from royal experts on the role Prince Philip plays when he accompanies the Queen on important royal occasions. The Daily Mail’s Richard Kay said: “He is trying to say the right thing, sometimes it doesn’t come out quite right. “He’s always taken the view that his role is an ice-breaker. “The Queen is actually remarkably shy.”   Mr Kay continued: “No one tells Prince Philip what to do, first and foremost. He is his own man, he says what he thinks and what he feels.” Royal correspondent for The Sun Emily Andrews added: “Prince Philip is a law unto himself. “I think it would take a very, very brave person to say, ‘Sir, by the way, can you just tone it down bit?’” Some of Prince Philip's most recent gaffes have included telling Nobel Prize-winning Malala Yousafzai, who was shot by the Taliban for going to school, that “The thing about children going to school, is that they go to school because their parents don’t want them in the house”. Meanwhile, President Trump’s gaffe caught the ire of many royal watchers on his previous visit to meet the Queen in 2018. The US President turned his back on the Queen and then walked in front of her while inspecting the guard at Windsor Castle – actions that are all considered to be major faux pas when it comes to royal etiquette. Historian Ian Beck commented on Twitter: “Trump has also turned his back on the Queen. “I have always believed this to be a mortal insult to a monarch.” Day one of the state visit is culminating in a state banquet at Buckingham Palace this evening, with Prince Charles, Camilla, Kate Middleton and Prince William all joining the Queen with her guests.
