Study: Linking Legal Weed To Fewer Opioid Deaths Doesn't Work

Study: Linking Legal Weed To Fewer Opioid Deaths Doesn't Work One of the pro-cannabis movement’s talking points may have been delivered a blow with the publication of a new study. According to Gizmodo, research from Stanford University blows a hole in the idea that the more medical cannabis is legalized, the fewer people will die from opioid overdoses. The findings suggest that there’s no real connection between the rate of opioid overdose deaths and a state’s medical cannabis laws, at least not anymore. As medical cannabis users make up about 2.5 percent of the population, the study authors say it's unlikely that those users can significantly alter” a state’s opioid overdose rate by any noticeable amount.
