The air thick with smoke from the ferocious Siberian wildfire, local residents described the ordeal they are going through in the village of Peleduy in Yakutia.

“We haven't seen the sun in three weeks. We are out of breath because of the smoke. Our children and senior residents always need an ambulance,” said one local resident, Irina Chernova.

Locals also said they have seen bears and other animals looking for cover in the residential areas as the raging fires sweeps through the Taiga.

According to Russia’s Ministry of Emergency Situations (EMERCOM), at the moment there are 139 wildfires blazing across Yakutia. The ministry has deployed Be-200 amphibious aircraft to battle the fires.
