What Programs and Which People Will be Impacted by USCIS' New Public Charge Rule

What Programs and Which People Will be Impacted by USCIS' New Public Charge Rule USCIS published a new rule about "being a public charge" last week. This rule is scheduled to take effect October 15, 2019. This rule says that any person who receives a public benefit (aka is a public charge) will have a point given to them for each month they receive a benefit. These points will be added together and used in determining approval for the immigration benefit for which the person applied.

What does that mean? Who will be impacted? If you are on certain programs right now should you get off of them? Should you avoiding enrolling in "entitlement" programs to keep yourself from being denied a visa, green card or citizenship?

Immigration attorney, Andres Mejer, explains the programs that you must be on to be impacted (possibly) by this new rule. He also explains why it isn't applicable to most people seeking an immigration benefit.

If you are worried about this public charge rule being an issue for you - call our office and schedule a NO COST consultation. We can determine if you are eligible for an immigration benefit NOW and get your application filed before the date this new rule is supposed to go into effect.
