The GSD calls on the Education Minster to make a full statement on the readiness of the schools and to clarify rumours that health and safety certificates have still not been issued. It says there are further reports that examination classes needed for the teaching of practical activities such as home economics and science will not be fully functioning until after Christmas. Party Leader, Keith Azopardi says the safety of teachers and pupils must be paramount but he says that if there are further delay and schooling is affected, the fault lies squarely with the government because of its obsessive, costly and electoral insistance to open the schools before the election. He adds the product could have been delivered at better value for money and more safety if the government had not rushed for the line.
For its part, Together Gibraltar says the Government is clearly using the completion of the schools as an electoral tool, trying to rush through campaign promises, potentially, at the expense of people's safety. The Party says it has no option but to condemn the irresponsible conduct. It asks the Government to confirm on what authority it has condoned teachers working in a building site and how it plans to ensure they remain safe.
