Balbino Fermin, better known as “Balo” of Hattieville, was knocked down and killed over the weekend. “Balo” was riding his bike when a truck hit him from behind; he died on the spot. The family reports that residents in the area heard a loud bang when the truck hit Fermin. This evening, the driver of the truck, identified as forty-eight-year-old Belizean-American military officer Stephen Augustine, was arraigned on three charges of manslaughter by negligence, causing death by careless conduct and driving without due care and attention. Augustine was released on bail of six thousand dollars, plus one surety of the same amount. This morning News Five spoke with Fermin’s daughter. She recounted details of the accident.
