A personalized methodology of cancer theranostics.

This video is a pitch for a strategy of optimized selection of protein targets suitable for drug development against cancer diseases that we are developing at Fiocruz (Laboratory of Biological System Modeling, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil). We combine human interactome and transcriptome data from tumor and surrounding tissues and identify the most relevant targets for chemotherapy. This strategy has been validated in vitro and is on the way for in vivo validation. Interestingly, many proteins diagnosed through this strategy do not have an associated drug, which leaves room for further technological development. We found that personalized treatments based on specific drugs are expected to include three to eight active compounds according to the tumor aggressiveness. We believe that these results may have significant clinical implications in the personalized treatment of cancer patients allowing a rational approach to the treatment of this disease.
