The core of Islam is peace, not extremism, said a religious leader in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. Abudulrekep Tumniaz, the president of the Xinjiang Islamic Institute, voiced his firm belief of the religion.
Islam is a proponent of peace. The term itself means submission and peace. Given these circumstances, peace is the name of our faith, which embodies peace itself. Being a Muslim means to uphold peace," he said.
