How Bangladesh Garments Industry Makes Fabrics. The textile and garment sectors play an important role in the growth of the economy; Manufacturing accounts for over 65% of the country's industrial employment and 81% of export earnings. About 1 million workers are employed in this industry, of which 5% are women. From the independence of Bangladesh, the textile sector was mainly an import-substitution industry. It started exporting knit, knit and sweater garments (RMGs) in 1978, which increased spectacularly from US $ 3.5 million in 1981 to US $ 7.7 billion in F-3Y in the next two and a half decades. Clothing exports have increased, but primarily, the RMG industry is not well supported by the growth of the domestic supply chain (such as the spinning, weaving, knitting, fabric processing and garment accessories industries). Until that financial year, Bangladesh's RMG industry was largely dependent on imported textiles - the primary textile sector (PTS) was not producing the required fabrics and yarn. Thanks.
