As a firm believer in being the best you can be, Imanga Kayama set out to establish a business that demonstrated exactly this principle. Imanga Kayama is our EscarArts Pacesetter for the month of September 2019. Ms. Kayama is the founder and Managing Director of MANIC Creatives Limited. She was born in Kabwe, grew up in various parts of Zambia before eventually settling in Lusaka. Ms. Kayama completed her Grade 12 at Hillcrest Secondary School and proceeded to pursue A-levels at Springfields Coaching Center where she met and became friends with her co-founder Kasolo Lewanika. Although her ultimate dream was to study Law at UNZA, it was never meant to be. Ms. Kayama by chance applied to study abroad at the behest of her mother and family and got accepted to study in Canada. Being exposed to different cultures and people, Ms. Kayama draws inspiration from diverse sources where she can potentially learn something new. Her whole upbringing has been centered around stepping out of the comfort zone, being confident and equal to the task. Her mother and family have been an immense source of support throughout her endeavors.
Having identified a tremendous commercial opportunity in the Zambian digital space, Imanga transitioned from full-time employment to self-employment in order to fulfill her dream of owning a business one day. In other words, she quit a good job to pursue her dream. Hence, Manic Creatives was birthed in the year 2015. Manic Creatives is digital marketing agency that offers its clients cost-effective solutions to improve their online presence. Digital Marketing is the use of digital tools to market your product or service. In addition, the motivation behind starting MANIC was also identifying the dire need for high-quality Zambian content to be put on the internet. Therefore, MANIC was born to solve this problem by helping others to create content and put Zambia on the digital map.
Ms. Kayama has spearheaded Manic Creatives from a startup with zero capital to breaking even, making profits and subsequently employing full time members of staff. The next goal is to scale Manic Creatives from a small enterprise to a corporate company while also ensuring its sustainability. MANIC’s mission is to promote digital skills across the country while effectively competing on the global stage.
